Oh baby/child proofing. That fun time where your child is on the move and becoming more independent and you realize all of the dangers that your house holds. Cameron is somewhat of a bulldozer and tends to just things over even when we try to keep her safe. Sadly I believe she is going to be accident prone like her parents.
For our house, a couple strategic baby gates and we had ourselves a nice baby play area. Until she realized she didn’t like being cooped up. Then we had to go full on baby proofing of the house. We took 2 of the 6 baby gates and put those at the bottom of the stairs because that was her biggest temptation. She kept trying to climb the stairs and was very fumbly so we decided to just nip that in the bud. The others we placed in front of the TV so that the cords and such were out of reach.
Of course another big one is the plug covers. She was never interested in the light sockets, and we kept most covered by furniture in the first place but the ones that were out we placed plug covers on so that if she decided to become interested in them we were safe.
A lot of our cabinets and drawers are too heavy and she’s never attempted to open them in the first place. We do have the cabinet stoppers if we do happen to see she’s showing interest.
We also keep a lot of our doors closed for rooms we don’t want her in. She doesn’t love being locked out of rooms, but we figure it’s much easier until she can open doors for herself, and seeing as she has her mother’s height we will have plenty of time for that.
Finally, our big baby proofing tactic is the foam play-mats. We have hardwood floors so we wanted to put something down to keep her a bit safer if she fell or while she was playing. She does love pulling them up and playing with them, so they do some double duty.
Did you do anything besides the basic child proofing of your house?
