I think we can agree that colds are not fun, and summer colds are just even worse. Then if your child ends up catching one, well that’s just a really bad situation.
That happened to our household this past weekend. First my husband got it, then I caught it, then sadly Cameron caught it. And she’s been so good about being lucky and not catching things or getting sick in her almost 2 years of life and I knock on wood and thank the higher ups every day for that. But this cold had another idea as it raced through our little family.
For my husband and I, we just do what we always do when we get sick, chug cold medicine down like it’s going out of style. I tried everything from DayQuil and NyQuil to Mucinex, halls cough drops, other cough drops, chicken noodle soup, anything you could think of because this cold hit me so hard that I was bed ridden for 2 days, and as a mom you know that had to be hard. A week later and cough is about all that’s left but jeez it will not go away.
For Cameron though, you can’t just give her some DayQuil and call it a day. She’s under 2 so you have to be careful. The first and only other time we thought she was getting a cold I reached out to her doctor who gave me some recommendations on what to give her, as well as I asked my fellow momma friends what they used on their littlest.
Here’s what we have been doing for Cameron this round.

Hyland Baby Mucus and cold relief liquid dual pack. https://amzn.to/324M6kP
This is what we first were using for Cameron but recently she’s been fighting us on taking any sort of liquid meds so we had to think of something else to get her to take the meds.
Hyland Baby Tiny Cold Tablets dual pack. https://amzn.to/2Hl6s13
These do pretty much the same as the liquid but they come in tiny quick dissolve tablets so we just pop them in her mouth and poof she’s taken her meds.
Boogie wipes 3 pack. https://amzn.to/33P2iYT
Because I don’t know of a child who likes to get their nose wiped. We use them because they are gentle enough and made with natural saline.
Now we also have Little Remedies Saline Spray and Stuffy Nose kit, but we have yet to need to use either of those so I can’t report how well they work or give my opinion on them. https://amzn.to/2ZbQwt5
Now besides actual medicine, we of course try to keep her liquids up and keep her well rested. Easier said then done with a moving about toddler, but she seems to be on the up and up and luckily I don’t believe the cold hit her as hard as it could have. Thankfully again.
Is there anything special you do when your kiddo has a cold?
