    • TWO sweet 2nd birthday

Posted at 11:33 am by CS, on October 21, 2019

This past weekend we celebrated my daughters 2nd birthday with family and friends. I’m pretty big on birthday puns so when trying to figure out what sort of party to throw I knew I wanted the saying to have “TWO” in it. And because this is probably my last year of being able to pick the party theme I wanted to make it a good one. So, I took to Pinterest and it soon became clear what I started gravitating towards was going to be a donut themed party with the tag line of “TWO Sweet.” I had also thought about a “Taco TWOsday” party or a rodeo themed party with the saying “This ain’t my first rodeo, it’s my second.” But after researching and trying to find decor and such the donut theme became the clear winner.

Once the theme was chosen, we had to decide on a location, date, and time. When throwing a child’s party this young you really need to account for meal times and nap times so that you don’t have a cranky birthday child on your hand. Because we are sort of in between housing locations I had thought about hosting at a park, or an indoor play area, but then figured that wouldn’t give me as much freedom. So I decided and my mother graciously allowed us to have it at her house. I’m so glad I went this route too since it ended up pouring most of the party day thanks to tropical storm Nestor. So we had the location, now the date and time were next. Since Cameron’s birthday is pretty close to Halloween I like to try to have it early enough that it doesn’t interfere with Halloween activities, so we settled on the 19th. Timing wise, I knew if we started the party at 2 that would be after nap time and Cameron would be in a fairly good mood hopefully.

All the logistics were set so we then move on to decor and food. We made the mistake of overbuying for her first birthday so I didn’t want the same issue to happen this time around. We had a sandwich platter, a veggie platter, chips and dip, and broccoli salad as mains/sides. Then for dessert we had donuts of course and then a cake that my mother made which turned out perfect!

Decor wise, I also knew I didn’t want to go overboard, especially since it was at our house and there wasn’t a ton of people coming. We kept it pretty tight knit because of location. So I got a few banners, some balloons, and all the donut plates/napkins/cups I could find and called it a day. Amazon, party city, and Etsy were my lucky places to find everything I needed.

Now it was party time! Cameron was the only child in attendance, just due to timing and us being in between houses and all that but I don’t think she minded a bit. All the guests showed up and we all sat around talking, and hanging with Cameron as she ran around getting all the birthday attention. She was in heaven.

Then it was time for presents. And now I understand why most of the time people wait to have the kids open gifts after the party. Cameron could have cared less about the actual opening of gifts so I ended up doing most of that. She just wanted to look at and play with the stuff as it was opened. Typical 2 year old of course. She got some great stuff, and while she hasn’t played with everything the vtech picnic basket seems to be top spot at the moment.

Lastly, it was time for cake. And donuts. We were a little scared that we would get a repeat of her first birthday where she was not ok with being sung to. Luckily, she enjoyed it a lot better this time around. Not a big fan of blowing out the candles though so maybe next year. She absolutely loved the icing though, what kid wouldn’t.

All in all it was one fantastic party, and we are so grateful for all who came and celebrated with us!

    • Our favorite products

Posted at 12:27 pm by CS, on July 1, 2019

Since we recently moved, and had to go through all our stuff, it made me realize some of the items that really got us through those tough newborn/infant times. And yes, even though our girl is 20 months now, we keep this around because it will be useful for baby number two if we decide to have one. I’m also a hoarder of baby things and just can’t bring myself to get rid of them. Especially since some can’t go to donation I would hate to have to throw them away.

These products are in no particular order, just now I remembered them. Also, based on availability, some products may not have links.

Diaper genie– We first tried to get by with just throwing her diapers away in the garbage, but slowly realized that when she had some stinky ones, the trash bin just did not mask the scent. So we went with a diaper genie and it helped wonders. https://amzn.to/2XdgwmS

Vibrating bed- Sadly, the bed we used for Cameron has recently been recalled, but that doesn’t mean I can’t praise how well it worked for us. The Fisher Price Rock n Play really helped us out when the bassinet I had originally bought was not working out and I wasn’t quite ready to move Cameron into her crib. I think the slight vibration is what really sold us, because that just helped Cameron go right to sleep. We had very good luck with this.

Fisher Price soothe and glow Giraffe– Cameron was gifted a musical giraffe for her first Christmas from her aunt and uncle. At first we didn’t think much to use it at bedtime, but then one day we played it for her as she was going down for a nap and we realized how well it worked to calm her as she was trying to fall asleep. We loved it so much we bought a second one to send down to daycare. https://amzn.to/2XcYr8n

Bibs– As far as bibs go, I can’t recommend a specific brand, we just went through a lot of bibs. Cameron was the queen of spit up when she was an infant, so these helped us so much to keep her outfits semi clean. Now that she’s a bit older, we try to use more of the plastic sort of bibs, rather than the clothes. Another tip would be the bandana bibs, those were lifesavers as well and always came in cute prints. Amazon and target is where we found most of ours.

Baby monitor- This is a product that came in handy, not really at the newborn stage, but once we moved Cameron into her own room at 7-8 months, it really gave me piece of mind. Especially because we have a video monitor and I love being able to see her as she sleeps. https://amzn.to/2J8LToQ

Box fan– Cameron takes after both her parents in the fact that we need some sort of white noise to fall asleep. And she takes after her mother for needing it to be a bit colder to enjoy sleep. We utilized one of the many box fans that you can get at any big box retailer in the summer to help with that. And I must say, it really really helped us with getting her to fall asleep.

Blanket– another random product, in which it just sort of happened that it helped us during her infant time and now leading into her toddler years. She has a soft, comfy, fuzzy blanket, that I got randomly at CVS of all places a few years ago at Christmas time. One day we used it to calm her down, and that’s all she wrote. It has now become HER blanket. Can not go anywhere without it.

Diaper spray– If you’re like me, you don’t love putting diaper cream on your babies bottom. It’s just messy. And yes, they have tools you can use to make it less messy, but I found, using a spray just makes it a whole lot easier. I’m actually mad I didn’t find this sooner. This one works great, especially because we’ve dealt with some very bad diaper rash recently. https://amzn.to/2LqnPAk

4moms MommaRoo– One again, Cameron’s love for movement and vibration brought us this seat. It has different speeds and different motions so we could always switch it up. It also worked off Bluetooth so we can control it from our phone, which my husband absolutely loved doing. https://amzn.to/2XI8nX6

Boppy– We has two boppy’s. One I attempted to use while breastfeeding, that didn’t work out great for me. The other one we used as a seat of sorts for Cameron. It worked nicely to have her sitting on the couch with us, or on the floor, or propping her up for things. It had many uses for us and we loved it. https://amzn.to/2ITVwc5

    • Why amazon prime is life

Posted at 2:30 pm by CS, on May 16, 2019

Let me tell you, this mom should own stock on Amazon, Target, and Carters for the amount of product I buy from them. The postal worker than is assigned to our house must wonder how much time I spend on these sites with how many boxes constantly come to my house.

I can’t help it, these sites are amazing. And while Target and Carters are great and have amazing things, I’m here to talk about why I have such a love for Amazon.

First off, Amazon Prime. I mean how can you not love two day shipping. And it’s free two day shipping. You place an order and almost in a blink of an eye it’s at your house! It’s wonderful.

Secondly, connivence. For me, where we live, we have a 30-40 min ride to most big named stores. So being able to just sit online and shop is great, not to mention that if you account the price of gas and having to change out of yoga pants it is just much more worth it to shop online. And once again free two day shipping!

Third, the amount of items you can find on Amazon is just great. You need diaper lotion, amazon prime, you need diapers, amazon prime, does mom need a new top for a random night out, amazon prime. You can get so many items on amazon it’s ridiculous!

And while I’m in now way sponsored by amazon, I just felt that I needed to share my love for it and just say, if you don’t have prime, you really should look into it! A one time yearly fee and you get free shipping, prime video, prime music…it is just the best!

    • The stinky situation

Posted at 11:36 am by CS, on April 25, 2019

If you had asked me what one of the more popular topics I searched for once I became a mom, my child’s bowel movements would be no where near the top of this list. Never did I think I would have so many questions about the bowel movements of my child. And recently we’ve had a few bouts of constipation with Cameron so I’ve been searching and trying to find the best remedies for that.

Here’s what I’ve learned about this stinky situation. These are no where near all the information out there, or all the tips/tricks that can be utilized. These are just some that did happen to us.

      1) Be prepared for that tar like poop of a newborn. You are warned in books and classes, but until you see it yourself you can’t really prepare. So just know it is coming and it’s sticky.

      2) Blow outs are inevitable, and sometimes you just have to take them straight to the bath tub fully dressed. It will make cleaning them off easier if they are just in the bathtub already.

      3) If you can remember, put the clean diaper under the dirty so baby won’t have an accident on the changing table or carpet if they aren’t fully done with their movement mid-change.

      4) Poop color change with different solids. So don’t be alarmed if you’ve been giving your child peas and their poop turns green, or orange poop comes after some sweet potatoes or carrots. I remember the first time that happened and I was so confused.

      5) Once you do start your baby on solids, keep in mind their poops will become more solid. I like to say: the more solid the food the more solid the poop.

      6) Don’t be to worried if your child doesn’t poop often all the time. Some days you may not have bowel movements so keep that in mind that your child may be the same. But that being said, if it goes longer than a few days or you can tell they are hurting or straining, then it may be time to take some measures for constipation.

Constipation: as I stated above, we’ve had a few and some recent cases of constipation with Cameron. We are still trying to learn what works best and what to do to keep her staying regular but here’s what we’ve been doing so far.

When we first noticed, the lack of “movements” we were getting from Cameron, I of course jumped on google to see what I could find about what causes constipation. Two big triggers I saw were bananas and cheese, which in our house are staples for Cameron as she absolutely loves them. So first thing I did was cut those out of her diet. Luckily she hasn’t seemed to miss them much.

Once I did that, I looked to see what would help clear out her system and tried to start implementing some of those into her diet. So we tried avocados, blueberries, prunes and prune juice, apple juice, blueberries, and oats or other high fiber items. We also tried adding some Vaseline to the area of her bum to give her the sensation of needing to “go”.

Unfortunately, although we started getting some movements, they were tiny, hard, and she was straining and in so much pain trying to pass everything. So then I reached out to the doctor to see if he could give me any more recommendations. He suggested some drops or suppositories to try and help move things along. So I went to my trusty amazon to see what I could find for kids her age.

Mommy’s bliss constipation ease drops– these are drops or a liquid you give orally that taste like prunes.

Pedia-lax suppositories- fast acting suppositories to help with the flow and go

Using both of these have started to help, so we will just keep an eye on her and see if we need to take anymore action.

Do you have any remedies that work for your little one?

    • A tisket, a tasket, what’s in her Easter basket?

Posted at 2:43 pm by CS, on April 22, 2019

This year for Easter, Cameron seemed a bit more excited. She was all about the Easter bunny, all about shaking her eggs, all about eating what was inside her eggs, and all about her Easter basket. This year we tried to go for a book and craft sort of theme because she is getting into sitting and reading with us and also we are trying to get her more into coloring, painting, and anything else crafty. Here’s what we put in her Easter basket this year.

Disclaimer: “Catherine is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to insert the applicable site name amazon.com. The first thing we put in her basket was an Easter book. I always like getting her books that correlate with the holiday we are celebrating and we have really been enjoying these llama llama series books. She’s on her way to collecting them all.

      https://amzn.to/2ZnE4CS Llama llama Easter egg

This next book is a great book that teaches a story about being yourself and friendship. And who doesn’t love giraffes.

      https://amzn.to/2VXUsId Little Giraffe’s BIG Idea

Cameron had gotten the alphabet blocks by this brand for her birthday and loved them. I knew I wanted to get her one toy for her basket and the blocks just seemed like the perfect choice. The are squishy and make a squeaky noise, each block has a number and corresponding animals on them. They are also all different colors. Probably her favorite thing in her basket.

We have just started allowing Cameron to color and had tried the egg shaped crayons and she wasn’t feeling them. So we decided to try these jumbo crayons instead and she seems to like them a lot more. They are non-toxic which is awesome because she is still in the stage of wanting to put everything in her mouth.

https://amzn.to/2Izv9Jf crayons jumbo pack 16 pack multicolor crayola

What’s crayons without something to color on. Decided to get her some coloring and activity books and because she’s such a big Disney fan, this three pack was an obvious choice!

Did your little one enjoy their Easter basket? Anything that was a big hit? Anything not go over so well?
