    • Too early for terrible twos?

Posted at 11:27 am by CS, on April 8, 2019

Just shy of her turning 18 months old, this weekend Cameron gave us a run for our money. She was testing all sorts of waters and boundaries.

She wanted to go upstairs and we wouldn’t let her, she wanted to move the baby gate at the bottom of the stairs and we wouldn’t let her. Then we rigged it so that it wouldn’t move at all and that upset her. The tantrums then started in full force. Tears flowing, snot and drool forming in flood like levels. She was throwing herself back on to the floor and was inconsolable. I thought we had another few months before we saw any traits of her terrible two stage. Apparently she wanted to get a jump on this next phase in life and to keep us on our toes.

Considering this is a new chapter for us as a family I tried to figure out how best to approach the situation. She is still learning and trying to understand what boundaries she can push and what limits we will set for her.

Here’s how we attempted to handle this. First, I let her cry it out. I tried not to raise my voice at her because I knew that would only cause more issues. But I did use my stern “mom” voice when letting her know what she was doing was not ok.

Second, I removed her from the situation. She kept trying to get up the stairs and move the baby gate, so once I was done using my mom voice I would pick her up and move her away from the area. Just so she knew that we were not to play on the stairs. Granted, she kept going back and before we fixed the baby gate she did end up getting up the stairs once or twice. When she succeeded, I knew it was partly because she wasn’t listening, and partly because we didn’t have the baby gate secure so I knew it was not fully her fault so how could I punish her when she was still learning. She did get put in a 2 min timeout where I sat her down and spoke to her about exactly why she was in trouble. I told her I understood that she wanted to go upstairs, that the excitement of being upstairs was fun but she needed to listen to mommy because I just want her to be safe.

Third, we created a distraction. Now, I understand bribing a child isn’t the best way to deal with things, and I wouldn’t call what we did a bribe, but while she was crying and screaming and throwing her tantrum, after removing her from the situation I would sit with her on my lap and try to calm her down and put on one of her favorite shows or movies. Just showing her I was there for her I think diffused the situation a little more quickly.

Now I know that we have more mountains to climb since she’s not quite two yet and I do see more tantrums coming our way, but hopefully learning some more tips will help us be able to handle them if they happen to come about as she is still testing the waters on what she can and can’t do. I want her to have confidence and be independent, but I also want her to learn to listen and be disciplined.

    • YouTube dates at 3am

Posted at 3:52 pm by CS, on April 4, 2019

So when you wake up at 2/3/4/5am for a middle of the night feeding, some nights you just either can’t get back to sleep, or realize that it’s a bit to late or early enough to go back to sleep.

The way we remedied that situation was to binge watch YouTube. It was also another calming method for Cameron who enjoyed listening to the voices of some of these YouTube stars. Now I will preface this with saying that pretty much all the YouTube I watch are Disney related vlogs, because as I’ve admitted before I’m sort of obsessed with all things Disney. I first really got into watching YouTube and Disney vlogs when it came to wanting to re-prepare myself for an upcoming trip to Disney, and then wanted to watch videos of families going to Disney since I knew we would be taking Cameron eventually. These were the three that really helped us and some of our absolute favorite channels.

The TimTracker- This was the channel for me that really started my love for YouTube and for Disney vlogs. Tim and his lovely wife Jenn do not only Disney vlogs but universal, sea world, and other Orlando area vlogs. They live in the area so they do updates and things around town vlogs pretty much daily. Cameron really loves listening to his voice and we just love learning about all the new things coming to and all the Orlando parks while we are living so far away. They have some great content and have been doing this for years so I can always go back and watch older videos if I need a fix. You can find their channel Here.

Adam Hattan- So he is another one of our favorites. He is from the UK so his accent is also a super big plus. He takes trip to Disney and while he is there he gives great tips, tricks, advice about the parks to help with your trip planning. He posts once a week so we look forward to Sunday’s which is when his vlogs come out. He does a lot of solo trips so that’s a good bit of advice too. One great thing about him too is that his vlogs are on the longer side most times and when we would sit with Cameron trying to get her back to sleep, or needing a good long thing to watch while feeding, these vlogs really helped. You can find his channel Here.

Magical Moments- Last but not least we have Magical Moments. This is an adorable family of 4 that we started watching to help us get some ideas of what it would be like to take a family to Disney and also what it would be like planning a trip with a child. This family is great! They have so much fun on their trips and because of them and their favorites and tips, we have tried some of their advice in the few trips we have been on since Cameron was born. And on top of everything, they are just as great and sweet in person and what they show in their videos. I had the chance to meet them randomly on our last trip to Disney when we were there for my birthday and let me tell you it was the highlight of the trip. They were so nice and sat and chatted with us for a moment and even let me take a photo with them. They make Monday’s a bit less dreary because those are the days they post. If you want to check out their channel you can do so Here.

Hopefully if you find yourself up in the middle of the night, or middle of the day, in rain or shine, and possibly trying to plan a trip to Disney you will take a look at some of these great YouTube channels.

    • A little bit about me

Posted at 4:54 pm by CS, on March 3, 2019

So let’s start with a little introduction! Because hey, you’re here so you may want to know a little more about me. (If not, sorry!) I’m Katie, a wife and mother who lives in wine country California. Now I may live on the west coast, but I am an east coast girl at heart. Born in Delaware and raised in Florida, east coast living will always be in my blood. I have two fur babies (Felix and Cas) and one human baby (Cameron). I’ve been married for 3 years. I went to FSU and bleed garnet and gold, during football season my husband and neighbors probably think I’m crazy. I am a lover of all things Disney, some may say I’m a bit obsessed (I’ll wear that badge with pride), I also love Christmas, my seminoles, and wine (hence the wine girl portion of this site). I’m so excited that you are here and can’t wait to share with you so much more!
