    • How he asked…

Posted at 3:28 pm by CS, on April 18, 2019

In honor of this week being the 5th anniversary of getting engaged to my husband. I thought I would reminisce with a little throwback Thursday style blog and tell the story of how my husband proposed.

For anyone who really knows me, they know I’m obsessed with a few things, and two of those things are Disney and FSU (Go Noles!). So it was pretty much a given whenever I got engaged that my future husband would hopefully take the hints I would drop and propose at one of those places.

Now shortly after I started dating my now husband we took a trip to Disney world. And after that trip he made it pretty clear that Disney was not the place for him. My heart broke because I saw my proposal dreams in front of the castle be shattered because I knew I probably would never get him back there. But I figured, when the time came I’m sure whatever he cooks up will be magical and wonderful and special to us.

Fast forward to spring 2014, we had been dating about 3 years at this point and like most girls around my age and in this situation I was starting to get a bit antsy. Wondering when it was going to happen, if it was going to happen, why wasn’t it happening and all that Jazz. Come to find out he had been thinking and planning this all out for months at this point, since about October 2013. Something else you should probably know, I hate surprises and I tend to always be so nosy I end up ruining them anyway so the fact that he kept this from me for 6 months is pretty great.

To set the stage, my now husband entered a raffle at his job to win a private tour of DOAK Campbell stadium at FSU as well as meeting the head coach (at the time) Jimbo Fisher. That was right after the seminoles had won the national championship so it was a pretty big deal. People were putting tons of money into the raffle in hopes of winning. My man, he entered one ticket. And shockingly his name was drawn as the winner. He had so many people trying to buy it off him, but he says he knew as soon as he won, that that’s where he would get down on one knee.

The day comes for our tour and we start walking around the stadium. Going into offices, meeting people, getting that behind the scenes tour. The whole time he’s acting a bit strange but I just chalked it up to him not knowing a great deal about FSU and wanting me to enjoy my time because of how big a fan I am. So comes time to meet Jimbo, we go in, take some pics, get some autographs, and get to see the championship trophy and rings. I’m in heaven and was having the best time. We continue on the tour and make it down to the field. My husband then asked our guide if we were able to actually go out on the field, and that’s the moment something went off in my head. I starting thinking, no he’s not going to do it here, would he really, and about 15 other thoughts. So he grabs my hand and leads me on to the field. Mind you I’m slightly freaking out at this point. Then he grabs my shoulders and pulls me to the 50 yard line and says, “you know I love you right?” And right then all I could think was if this man breaks up with me here I’ll die. But what actually happened I can’t be 100% certain as I don’t remember a single thing he said because my heart was racing and pounding so much. After what I’m assuming was a loving and sweet monologue he then proceeded to get down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and proposed. My first thought was, “wow that is shiny,” and my next thought was, “answer him before he changes his mind.” I shook my head and said YES! Luckily we had some people with us on the tour who were in on it so we had the moment captured on film!

The tour guide asked if we wanted to end the tour because I probably had so many people to tell, and the true FSU fan that I am I told her no thanks, they can wait.

So it may have not been in front of the castle at Disney, but I think it was 100 times better because FSU has more of a special bond for us.
